The official trailer for Cats finally reveals the epic ensemble cast as furry felines as Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical goes from stage to screen

Earlier in the week, we were treated to a surprise peek behind the curtain of Tom Hooper’s adaptation of Andrew Llyod Webber’s legendary stage musical. The first look showcased the cast rehearsing for their roles, dancing under the tutelage of Tony-winning choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler, and awing at the breath-taking set design that shrinks the stars for a story told from a cat’s perspective. Now, with the trailer we were promised, we finally see the actors as alley cats. On the cobbled streets of a moonlit city, the whole ensemble cast is transformed remarkably via state-of-the-art technology. Jennifer Hudson’s Grizabella dominates the trailer with a heart-breaking rendition of the iconic song Memory as we’re treated to a rundown of the all-star cast of cats including Taylor Swift as glamorous Bombalurina, James Corden as bumbling Bustopher Jones, Idris Elba as prowling Macavity, Rebel Wilson as clumsy Jennyanydots, and Jason Derulo’s curious Rum Tum Tugger. Plus Dame Judi Dench fulfils her lifelong ambition to star as Old Deuteronomy and Royal Ballet principal dancer Francesca Hayward makes her debut as the graceful Victoria. While the reaction to their human faces on digitally-rendered cat costumes has certainly been hit and miss, there’s no doubting this film will be a spectacle.
